Fdp. Duarte et Aaf. Loureiro, Performance evaluation and scalability analysis of SNMPv3 with superimposition in a mobile environment, CONCURR ENG, 9(2), 2001, pp. 139-145
An important question in the current TCP/IP architecture is how to extend i
ts technology and its protocols to support mobile computing. The existing p
rotocols were not designed with that goal in mind. The Simple Network Manag
ement Protocol (SNMP), the most widely used protocol for network management
on TCP/IP networks, is no exception. Adapting the SNMP with a superimposit
ion model may be a possible way to success in mobile environments managemen
t [1]. In this paper we evaluate the use of superimposition architecture to
improve the performance of the SNMP protocol in a mobile computing archite
cture. An empirical environment was simulated for the comparison of a conve
ntional SNMP model and an adapted SNMP model. Some performance metrics are
presented as a result, showing the superimposition algorithm advantages.
