The reported relationships between cholesteryl ester transfer protein, high
density lipoproteins and arterial disease are confusing and conflicting. S
everal papers published during the review period add substantially to the e
vidence base regarding the atherogenicity (or anti-atherogenicity) of chole
steryl ester transfer protein, although none clearly resolves the continuin
g conflict. These new papers are presented against the backdrop of the prev
ious state of knowledge. Curr Coin Lipidol 12:377-382., (C) 2001 Lippincott
