Disorders of the thumb sesamoids

The subsesamoid joints of the thumb are a common site of arthritis, but the ir small size makes diagnosis of disorders challenging. The sesamoid and su bsesamoid joints may also be injured acutely with the volar plate complex d uring hyperextension injuries, and may sometimes produce mechanical dysfunc tion. Simple excision of chronically painful sesamoids provides excellent r elief.
