Abstract
The reactions of Ba2YCu3O7 and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta, a with salt melts were studied in the range 300-600 degreesC with the aim of substituting alkali m etals and Ag for Ba and Sr via low-temperature ion exchange. It is found th at Na and K can be partially substituted on the Ba site in 123, and Ag subs titutes for Sr in 2212. The incorporation of Ag has an adverse effect on th e superconducting properties of 2212.
