The Al-27 NMR MAS spectra of surface species of aluminum-containing co
mpounds AlEt3-nCln (n = 0-3) on MgCl2 have been measured. The data obt
ained indicate that 5- and 6-coordinated aluminum compounds form on th
e MgCl2 surface. The majority of the AlCl3 supported in small amounts
on MgCl3 was found to be 4-coordinated. (C) 1997 Published by Elsevier
