The new laboratory measurements of R. Schermaul er al. (J. Mel. Spectrosc.
208), for the near-infrared and visible spectrum of water vapor, covering t
he 2 nu + delta, 3 nu, 3 nu + delta, and 4 nu polyads, are combined with ac
curate calculations of weaker lints to provide a new, comprehensive linelis
t of water transitions for the spectral region 8600-15 000 cm(-1). The resu
lting ESA-WVR linelist reproduces the raw laboratory observations to a high
level of agreement at all but the longest wavelengths. This linelist has b
een made available in a standard format for general use. (C) 2001 Academic
