B. Caronti et al., Dopamine transporter immunoreactivity in peripheral blood lymphocytes in Parkinson's disease, J NEURAL TR, 108(7), 2001, pp. 803-807
There is increasing interest in the identification of biological markers fo
r the early diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD). Previous studies indicat
e changes of dopamine content, tyrosine hydroxylase immunoreactivity and do
pamine receptors in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) in PD. Here we demon
strate a reduction of dopamine transporter immunoreactivity in PBL in the e
arly clinical stages of the disease. These findings contribute to our under
standing of the peripheral dopamine system in PD.
