The leaching behavior of the high-level waste (HLW)-glass in underground wa
ter was investigated under static leaching tests by solution analysis. Larg
e amounts of ions of Na+ and Ca2+ participated in the ion-exchange reaction
with glass. The reactions of glass with H+ (or H3O+) were compressed. The
ion-exchange reaction of Na+ (or Ca2+) with glass components dominated the
glass leaching mechanism at a temperature range 50-150 degreesC. The networ
k hydrolysis reaction is weak in underground water (UGW). (C) 2001 Elsevier
