Abstract
Amphorothecium occultum P. M. McCarthy, Kantvilas & Elix gen. er sp. nov, i s described from deeply shaded, saxicolous bryophytes in south-eastern New South Wales, Australia. This genus is characterized by a trentepohlioid pho tobiont, distinctive thallus chemistry,, pale, simple perithecia, largely u nbranched paraphyses and periphyses, thin-walled, non-amyloid asci and very large, multiseptate ascospores. Irs systematic position is uncertain. (C) 2001 The British Lichen Society.
