Abstract
Starting from R-configurated binaphthol the R-form of the title compou nd was readily prepared in two steps and characterized by X-ray struct ural analysis. It was used as the chiral ligand in the Ti-catalyzed as ymmetric oxidation of methyl-p-tolysulfide, the S-enantiomeric form of the sulfoxide being formed preferentially (ee = 86%).
