Abstract
This paper presents a new hybrid actuator for improving the performances of optical pickup actuators. The hybrid actuator is composed of a moving-magn et type actuator for the tracking motion and a moving-coil type actuator fo r the focusing motion. This configuration gives several benefits such as, a possibility for designing a compact bobbin structure, improved force and v ibration characteristics, and robust operations. The moving-magnet and the moving-coil type actuators are designed optimally by parametric investigati ons to increase the force constants. The effectiveness of the proposed actu ator is confirmed experimentally in terms of frequency response characteris tics. (C) 2000 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
