The vision of Culex quinquefasciatus was studied in the laboratory. Th
e attractiveness of colors (black, white, brown, yellow, blue, a skin
tone) was evaluated with respect to the collection of Cx. quinquefasci
atus in natural light, in the dark, and in ultraviolet light. Culex qu
inquefasciatus prefers both black and brown in natural light and ultra
violet light, but, as expected, there is no preference in the dark. Th
ere were no significant differences among the other 4 colors in natura
l light and ultraviolet light.
