Abstract
Lifetime of levels up to 22(+), have been measured in Kr-78 and an oblate s hape is assigned to the ground state using the CSM and the configuration de pendent shell correction calculations. Calculations further show that 78Kr is highly gamma -soft nucleus. The experimental Q(t) values coupled with th eoretical calculations indicate an oblate shape for 78Kr at low spins and t riaxial shape at higher spins.
