SYNTHESIS AND REACTIVITY IN INORGANIC AND METAL-ORGANIC CHEMISTRY
Anodic oxidation of Co, Ni and Cu in an anhydrous acetone solution of pyrid
ine-2-(1H)-thione-3-cyano-4,6-dimethyl-5-(phenylazo) (HL1) and its derivati
ves, pyridine-2-(1H)-thione-3-cyano-4,6-dimethyl-5-(4-chlorophenylazo) (HL2
), pyridine-2- (1H)-thione-3-cyano-4,6-dimethyl-5-(4-methylphenylazo) (HL3)
pyridine-2-(1H)-thione-3-cyano-4,6-dimethyl-5-(4-bromophenylazo)(HL4), pyr
idine-2-(1H)-thione-3-cyano-4-methyl-6-phenyl-5- (4-phenylazo)(HL5), pyridi
ne-2-(1H)-thione-3-cyano-4, 6-dimethyl-4-methyl-6-phenyl-5-(4-chlorophenyla
zo) (HL6) and (HL6) and pyridine-2-(1H)-thione-3-cyano-4-methyl-6-phenylazo
) (HL7) yields complexes of the compositions M(L)(2), [M(L)(2). (H2O)(2)] a
nd M(L)(2).(acetone)(2), where M = Co(II), Ni(II) or Cu(II) and L is the li
gand. Chemical and thermal analyses as well as infrared and electronic spec
tral data are presented to confirm the formulation of the complexes. The sp
ectral data show that the ligands are coordinated to the metal via the thio
enol sulfur atom and the nitrogen atom of cyano groups.
