Abstract
A sequence involving bromination of dimethyl 1,3-cycloheptadiene-2,3-dicarb oxylate (2) and subsequent double dehydrobromination provided an improved s ynthetic method for preparing dimethyl cyclohepta-1,3,5-triene-3,4-dicarbox ylate (1). The mechanism for the dehydrobromination step is also discussed.
