Synthesis of isopropylidene 5-alkyl-5-hydroxymethylmalonates and their application to the preparation of 2-alkylacrylic acids

Hydroxymethylated derivatives of isopropylidene 5-alkylmalonates 3 were syn thesized, via which 2-alkylacrylic acids 4 were prepared using isopropylide ne 5-alkylmalonates 1 as starting materials.
