Abstract
A practical and convenient synthesis of methyl 5-formyl-30-methoxybenzoate starting from 3-hydroxy-5-(methoxycarbonyl)benzoate in 65% overall yield is described. Ethyl 5-formyl-3-methoxybenzoate was also prepared in the simil ar manner.
