Abstract
Insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia are common pathophysiological featu res of several metabolic diseases, obesity and diabetes being two notable e xamples. In this article we review how the use of animal models has increas ed our understanding of insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia, with a par ticular emphasis on the use of mice with targeted disruptions of the insuli n signaling pathway.
