Abstract
A dome with a storage capacity of 45,000 t cement was built by Dome Technol ogy Inc. as part of the plant expansion at Ash Grove Cement in Durkee, Oreg on, USA. The dome, which came into operation with the first filling at the beginning of March 1999, has the dimensions 44.2 m diameter.28.2 m (145.92. 5 ft). The dome was erected extremely rapidly It is equipped with a Cambelt automatic screw reclaimer which is supported by an appropriate structure c onnected to a rotating central column, and ensures virtually 100% reclaim o f the material in the dome in three different operating phases assisted by gravity. The dome, which was built in a very short time using a specific te chnology, consists of a reinforced concrete shell and has numerous advantag es when compared with conventional silo structures. In addition to the cons tructional and conveying advantages a dome store not only requires less cap ital investment but also entails reduced operating and maintenance costs. A detailed report ir given of the individual phases of the erection of the d ome, and of the design and mode of operation of a Cambelt screw reclaimer.
