A procedure for reconstructing images of weak multidimensional scatter
ers is studied. A computer modeling of two-dimensional inverse scatter
ing from simulated scattering data is presented. The stability of the
two-dimensional algorithm to data errors is tested. Directivity functi
ons for different designs of three-dimensional ultrasonic medical tomo
graphs are calculated. The solution to three-dimensional inverse scatt
ering problem with three-frequency insonation is analyzed. The procedu
re can reconstruct basic scatterer parameters (sound velocity, density
, and attenuation) from incomplete scattering data.
