Abstract
This article gives the orthopedic surgeon a framework to use during th e initial evaluation of a patient with a pelvic fracture in the emerge ncy room. The essential elements of the assessment of instability, bot h clinically and radiologically, are given in this article. Examples o f the major patterns of instability are provided.
