We describe a dimensional analysis for different time series of the vertica
l component of wind velocity from half-hourly sonic anemometer measurements
. The goal is a characterization of the atmospheric turbulence from the poi
nt of view of Dynamical Systems Theory, based on the correlation dimension
of the strange attractor. Our results suggest that the convective turbulenc
e correlation dimension (values approximate to 6) is lower than the mechani
cal one (values approximate to 7-9).
