Abstract
The fate of peptides that fail to bind to major histocompatibility complex class I molecules in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) has remained unclear. A recent study has revealed that these peptides exit the ER via the Sec61 ch annel and compete for this pathway with misfolded proteins.
