V. Kummer et al., Emission reduction measures for bioaerosols from composting - Results fromresearch and execution, GEFAHR R L, 61(6), 2001, pp. 239-244
Similar to odour problems, bioaerosol emissions in the surroundings of wast
e treatment plants are often a cause for complaints by the neighbours conce
rned. In the past, some of these complaints have led to legal disputes that
resulted in cost-intensive plant modernisation and optimisation. Therefore
, emission reduction measures have to be taken into consideration already i
n the planning stages or must be realised within the frame of plant licensi
ng and control. Achievements of various bioaerosol reduction measures are e
xemplified. So far, the findings are not satisfactory for a comprehensive a
ssessment of process technology as lacking uniform frame conditions for mea
suring and differently applied sampling and analytical methods lead to an i
nsufficient comparability of research results. The acquirement and document
ation of further basic data as well as their professional discussion are co
nsidered compulsory for an appropriate assessment.
