Abstract
Reaction of hexa(methoxymethyl) melamine (HMMM) with trimethylsilyl iodide (TMSI) at - 45 degreesC, leads to quantitative formation of hexa(iodomethyl ) melamine (HIMM), which, upon addition of ZnI2, acts as a hexa-functional initiator for the cationic polymerization of isobutyl vinyl ether (IBVE). U nder the appropriate polymerization conditions, star-shaped, hexa-armed "li ving" polymers are obtained.
