Abstract
An effective-medium type method is developed for the effective magnetostric tion of nanocrystalline magnetic alloys based on the successful Green's fun ction technique recently developed for magnetostrictive composites. A more general, explicit relation for determining the effective magnetostriction o f nanocrystalline alloys is derived, and it recovers those previous Reuss-t ype approximations in the special cases. For illustration and comparison, c alculations for the effective magneto striction of nanocrystalline Fe85Zr7B 6Cu2 alloy are given. The effective-medium type formula is more applicable to consider the interfacial effect. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All righ ts reserved.
