Bioassay-guided fractionation of organic extracts from two Lyngbya majuscul
a collections led to the isolation of a new secondary metabolite, antillato
xin B, an unusual N-methyl homophenylalanine analogue of the potent neuroto
xin antillatoxin. Its structure was deduced from 2D NMR and data comparison
s with antillatoxin. Antillatoxin B exhibited significant sodium channel-ac
tivating (EC50 = 1.77 muM) and ichthyotoxic (LC50 = 1 muM) properties.
