A method for a complementary use of the muon density and angle-of-incidence
experimental distributions for the reconstruction of the muon lateral dist
ribution function (LDF) and height-of-origin distribution (HOD) for showers
in the knee energy region, is proposed. The method is based on the represe
ntation (in our previous work) of the muon LDF as an integral transformatio
n of the HOD. The corresponding inverse problems are formulated and a possi
ble way to solve them is proposed. The method is applied to simulated showe
rs, demonstrating the advantages in using the muon density and track inform
ation complementary.
