Abstract
Modelings of the radio propagation channel are among the most important and fundamental issues. The levels of the desired signal and cochannel interfe rence are associated with the measurement system. A new approach to estimat e the RF attenuation rate (AR, dBm/m) with the extraction technique is intr oduced in this paper. Any, changes due to an environmental disturbance or c ochannel interference will cancel. The AR can be used to characterize the t rees (or medium) with a linear expression. In practice, the attenuation rat e results of four roadside trees are described based on data acquired from experiments employing an RF channel sounding system at 1800 MHz. It makes t he estimations suitable for wireless communication systems. (C) 2001 John W iley & Sons, Inc.
