Abstract
Ethernet will soon be operating at 10 Gbit/s with seven new optical interfa
ces. Fiber reach will be extended to 40 km, and SDH/SONET-framed output wil
l be an option to allow seamless access to the existing WAN infrastructure.
This article reviews recent progress in standardization bodies and related
NTT activities.
