Abstract
We evaluate the role of target distortion in the determination of Auger tra nsition rates for multicharged ions in metals. The required two electron ma trix elements are calculated using numerical solutions of the Kohn-Sham equ ations for both the bound and continuum states. Comparisons with calculatio ns performed using plane waves and hydrogenic orbitals are presented. (C) 2 001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
