A large cryocondensation pump for an intense atomic hydrogen beam was
designed, fabricated, and tested; its compact design allowed a total c
opper cryopanel area of about 15 m(2). The cryopanels operated at abou
t 2.6 K. For an atomic hydrogen beam of up to 3.2 x 10(18) atoms s(-1)
, the measured pumping speed was about 1.2 x 10(7) 1s(-1), which is 4.
2 x 10(26) atoms Torr(-1) s(-1).
