Lv. Malykhina et al., Synthesis and magnetic properties of liquid crystalline lanthanide complexes with alkylsulfate counterions, RUSS CHEM B, 50(3), 2001, pp. 488-493
The reaction of Schiff's base L with lanthanide alkylsulfates affords liqui
d crystalline complexes with the general formula L(3)Ln(CnH2n+1OSO3)(3). Th
e liquid crystalline structure and magnetic proper-ties are studied by pola
rization thermal microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffr
action, and measurement of magnetic susceptibility. The temperatures of the
existence of the mesophase and magnetic anisotropy of the complexes with t
he same lanthanide depend on the chain length of the alkyl fragment in the
Sulfate anion.
