Abstract
The first diagnosed case of scrapie in an Austrian sheep (Texel) is discuss ed on clinical, gross sectional and pathohistological terms. Validation of the clinical and pathomorphological diagnosis was done by immunohistochemis try. Genetic analysis of the PrP-genotyp showed, that the animal belonged t o the group with the highest susceptibility. An overview over the national law concerning scrapie is given.
