By the reaction of diisopropylamine with concentrated hydrofluoric acid, th
e title compound, C6H16N+. HF2-, was synthesized. The cations and anions ar
e connected via hydrogen bonds to form chains along [100]. The interlocked
polymeric zigzag chains are hexagonally surrounded by six neighbouring chai
ns. The F- anion is strongly hydrogen bonded to HF [F-H 0.98 (4), H . . .F
1.34 (4), F . . .F 2.3125 (16) Angstrom and F-H . . .F 174 (3)degrees]; a b
etter description is that of a non-centred hydrogen difluoride anion.
