Jm. Senko et Jf. Stolz, Evidence for iron-dependent nitrate respiration in the dissimilatory iron-reducing bacterium Geobacter metallireducens, APPL ENVIR, 67(8), 2001, pp. 3750-3752
The dissimilatory iron-reducing bacterium Geobacter metallireducens was fou
nd to require iron at a concentration in excess of 50 muM for continuous cu
ltivation on nitrate. Growth yield (similar to3-fold), cytochrome c content
(similar to7-fold), and nitrate (similar to4.5-fold) and nitrite (similar
to 70-fold) reductase activities were all increased significantly when the
growth medium was amended with 500 muM iron.
