Dk. Singh et P. Yadav, Synthesis and ion exchange properties of zirconium sulfosalicylate: a cobalt(II) selective ion exchanger, CHEM ANAL, 46(4), 2001, pp. 515-522
A new inorganic ion exchanger zirconium sulfosalicylate (ZS) has been synth
esized under varying conditions. The sample ZS(4) has been chosen for detai
led studies, such as ion exchange capacity, determination chemical stabilit
y, chemical analysis, pH titration and FTIR analysis. Distribution coeffici
ents (K-d) of 16 metal ions have been studied at pH 2,4,6 and in 0.5 mol l(
-1) NaNO3 solutions. The K-d values indicate that the ion exchanger is sele
ctive for Co2+ ion. A tentative formula of ZS(4) has been proposed on the b
asis of chemical analysis, pH titration and FTIR analysis. On the basis of
K-d values some analytically important separations of metal ions have been
achieved on the small columns of the exchanger. The column technique has al
so been utilized for removal and recovery of Co2+ from aqueous solution.
