Impingement syndrome

Shoulder pain in athletes can be caused by rotator cuff pathology. Impingem ent of the supraspinatus tendon and associated soft tissues onto the subacr omial arch can be the cause of the pathology. Primary, age-related degenera tion and instability are among the other causative factors that need to be considered. Conservative treatment is often successful, but surgical subacr omial decompression is needed in some patients.
