Abstract
In this paper, we introduce an adaptive view-dependent display algorithm fo r polygon models. Although polygon models are being ubiquitously used in va rious kinds of applications, they are becoming increasingly complex. To dis play such polygon models at an interactive rate, not only improvements of t hree-dimensional graphics accelerators but also various kinds of software t echniques are inevitable. By applying a fast object-precision simplificatio n algorithm to our method, we present an adaptive view-dependent display me thod of polygon models that requires a small amount of preprocessing time. We show how to adaptively simplify or refine polygon models in real time an d results applied to several models. (C) 2001 Scripta Technica, Electron Co mm Jpn.
