Pesticide residues in ground and surface water in Bulgaria

Data on the occurrence of pesticide residues in 68 surface and ground water sources are presented. Residues of 15 pesticides have been found in 19 % o f the examined 176 water samples. The most positive findings were related t o atrazine, 13 % and lindane, 10%. The contamination levels ranged from 0,0 1 to 0,1 mug/l for atrazine and from 0,01 to 0,06 mug/l for lindane. The 5 cases of incidental contamination with high levels of pesticides, due to un regulated storage and disposal of pesticides are discussed.
