Natural killer (NK) cells express two types of receptors involved in target
recognition: inhibitory receptors for target cell MHC class I molecules an
d activation receptors. While there has been significant progress in unders
tanding the inhibitory receptors, less is known about the activation recept
ors. Detailed analysis of several mouse NK-cell activation receptors provid
es insight into the physiologic relevance of these receptors in the innate
immune response.
