The asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) has been widely accepted as an effecti
ve technique to transport various traffics such as voice, data and video in
broadband integrated services digital networks (B-ISDN). To utilize the ne
twork resources efficiently and to provide the required quality of service
(QoS) of each traffic, a proper priority control is necessary. This paper i
nvestigates a priority queueing model with four types of traffics, classifi
ed according to the delay and loss sensitivity. A head-of-line (HOL) scheme
for cell delay control and a push-out scheme for cell loss control are ado
pted. Some computational procedures for loss probabilities and waiting time
s are developed. Several numerical examples are also given. (C) 2001 Publis
