The magnetization process of bistable amorphous wires and microwires occurs
by a single Barkhausen jump that is ascribed to the propagation of a domai
n wall along the, wire. Recent results on wall propagation are here introdu
ced for both kind of wires. Two experiments are performed based on the clas
sical Sixtus Tonks method, exciting by alternate homogeneous field and loca
lly under a static field. Velocity and damping characteristics of the propa
gation wall are obtained. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserve
