Abstract
The chemical compositions, characteristic temperatures and optical transmis sion spectra of fluoride and chalcogenide glasses are presented. Properties of rare-earth-doped fluoride glass fiber lasers and amplifiers are given. Passive applications of chalcogenide glass fibers in the infrared are descr ibed specifically for optical sensing of chemical species. (C) 2001 Elsevie r Science B.V. All rights reserved.
