This paper shows that a cerium-doped lead phosphate matrix is a promising n
ew base for glasses that possess a pronounced second-harmonic-generation ef
fect for optoelectronic dataprocessing and -storage systems. The paper desc
ribes the conditions for recording quadratic-susceptibility gratings in the
lead-containing phosphate glass obtained by the authors with the so-far hi
ghest efficiency for converting laser-radiation frequency into the second h
armonic. (C) 2001 The Optical Society of America.
