Abstract
Hornet workers (Vespa orientalis, Hymenoptera, Vespinae) were anesthet ized by diethyl-ether, and their sleeping period was monitored. Sleep duration in hornets was found to be influenced by preexposure to horiz ontal rotation or to hypo- and hypergravity, by volatile fractions of their own venom and by the size of their habitat (crowding effect).
