Abstract
In this paper the authors report the results of studies on the develop ment of numerical digital signal processing algorithm for arcing fault s detection on overhead Lines. The algorithm is based on the harmonic analysis of the bus voltage and current signals. It starts working whe n a fault occurs and can be used for blocking automatic reclosing of l ines with permanent faults. A very simple are model has been adopted. The algorithm was successfully tested with the signals recorded on the real power system, and with signals obtained through computer simulat ed tests.
