H-1 and Na-23 NMR linewidth studies of the xNa(2)SiO(3) + (100 - x) N2
H6SO4 (x = 40, 45 and 48 mol%) gel systems are reported. The line narr
owing observed for H-1 and Na-23 nuclei confirms that H+ and Na+ ion m
igration occur in the gel. Furthermore, more than one type of protonic
and Na species have been identified to be present in the gel structur
e. The widths of lines corresponding to different Na+ ions have been a
nalysed using a computer fitting program. Detailed linewidth studies f
or all Na+ ions and H+ ions have been carried out. Data such as the ac
tivation energy, jump frequency and diffusion coefficient obtained for
each ion have also been evaluated.
