A handleability monitor was designed to provide a simple, rapid, on-site as
sessment of the whole or part consignment of a coal blend in its "as-receiv
ed" condition. The monitor was evaluated at a number of coal-handling plant
s, which handle both metallurgical and power station coals from a variety o
f sources worldwide. The results can be used to predict which coals could r
outinely pass through a handling plant at line capacity without causing blo
ckage or delay. Despite extensive analysis of the data, it was not possible
to correlate the handleability index to the regular sample analysis of moi
sture, ash and size analyses of the coal blends.
