We describe polarization spectroscopy measurements of N4+(1s(2)3p(2)P(3/2))
following single electron capture by N5+(1s(2)) from He and H-2. The degre
e of polarization P for the 3s(2)S(1/2)-3p(2)p(3/2) transition has been mea
sured as a function of projectile velocity ranging between 0.38 and 0.54 a.
u. In both of the collision systems, P has a nearly constant value in this
velocity range, namely 0.2 for He and approximately zero for H-2. The stro
ng target dependence observed in the degree of polarization is discussed.
